Project 1400

Project 1400 is my attempt to read the books I have an interest in, instead of just shelving them on my Want to Read list.

So far I have gone from 1495 at the beginning of 2025 to whatever the number is the day you're reading this. You can view my current Want to Read list on GoodReads and see how well I am doing. My goal is to get to 1400 by the start of next year. These book are digital, physical, and a few audio. There are new releases, back-log titles, and ARCs (Advanced Reader Copies).

I am using two spinner wheels from Wheel of Names, one with letters and one with numbers, to pick books off the list. I spin a letter (A to Z) and then a number (1 to 60), multiply them together (ie: M48 = 13 x 48 = 624), and choose that book from the Want to Read list according to the Position number. This number seems to be assigned by GoodReads from a variety of factors such as when it was added to the list, publication date, the addition of different publication copies, average rating, and magic.

At the time of writing this post, Returns by Mark Lawrence was Position 624. Since this is not the first book in this series, I would add the next book I have not read to my TBR. Again with this example, I have read the first book only, so I would add Book 1.4 Tabula Rasa and leave Returns on the Want to Read list. It could come up again on the same roll or move up in Position when I read books with lower Position numbers.

Of the 150 books I have read in 2025, almost 15% of them have come from my GoodReads list, though not all were chose from the spinner wheels. On my current TBR there are 5 books from P1400. I use the spinners to add books when I see that my Want to Read list is not shrinking. It adds an element of fun to the process of choosing a book. I also have started cutting books from my Want to Read list if I know it is not something I am interested in any longer. So many books sounded good 5 or 10 years ago and are just not my cup of tea now.

Also helping me to stay organized and up-to-date on all my reading statistics is my Reading Spreadsheet.

I originally got this Google Sheet two years ago in 2023 from a YouTuber named With Ali. She has a number of videos explaining how to use and modify the sheet to get what you want from it. Since I began using her system I have modified my sheet and been far more accurate with my reading. I have other Google Sheet reading trackers, but none are as versatile and customizable as this one.

She now has a 5 year tracker that I plan to pick-up at the end of this year so I am able to record all my data for the remainder of the 2020s in one sheet rather than in collated sheets I have to link. Since using her sheet I have also learned and begun coding in the Excel and Google Sheets coding languages.

Books that I read and do not want to keep sometimes go to donation (be that as gifts, little free libraries, or regional libraries) or they are sold. I have a PangoBooks shop that you can visit and see what I am selling. Most books are marked at a steep discount and I run consistent sale incentives. I am a collector first, so when I purchase a book it is always treated with the highest level care to ensure no damage comes to it once I own it. I rarely sell books that are flawed in any way and if there are imperfections (which really are probably me just nit-picking), I list and photograph them clearly.

I have really enjoyed being part of the book community. It is always fun to see what other people think of the books I have read and to find para-social friends to follow and interact with.

If you are finding me through Amazon/GoodReads, PangoBooks, NetGalley, Instagram, or just randomly

Welcome and Happy Reading

Until Next Time,
MC
